Devlin ft Yasmin – Runaway

September 11th, 2010

I first came across Yasmin when she went under the name of DJ Yasmin, she still does DJ (brilliantly…here song selection is always on point) however she’s recently made the move into making her own music and the hook on this is possibly one of favourites of the year.

Devlin is fast becoming one of my favourite U.K Mc’s obviously he’s been around many years featuring on other tracks but with the release of Brainwashed earlier this year I began to take more notice… Look out for this track I have a feeling it’s going to be massive Top 10 material?! Think its due out end of October not sure of the date!

Also looking forward to the album “Bud, Sweat and Tears” out 1st November 2010!

Where have I heard this before?

September 9th, 2010

Got some bits and bobs yesterday this track is on one compilation…. It’s a remix of 2 Way Street from Miss Jones and features the late Big Pun. Now I swear I have heard something that sounds similar/has sampled this track or this track takes a sample from something else? – Any help locating said sample/sound-a-like track would be great because I was going to go to bed an hour ago but its annoying me! I’ve even resorted to translating the sample into words and googling it….

p.s. I think something around 2000/2002 sounding similar or if not an 70/80s track that contains the words(?) “dubby doo, run, run, run” < yes I did try googling that!

I could of cause be making this all up but I’m convinced!

Robert Carvalho can be congratulated for being the first person to send me a promo track as a result of my blog/twitter account therefore it only fair I give you some more details. The track in question is called “Loving You” its not something I automatically liked but it by no means offends me and he took the time to share the track I thought I’d share it!

Carvalho – Loving You

I’ve also checked out his Myspace and prefer the tracks on there (Sin&Shame + Beware) than the promo track sent have a look for yourself

Drake – Better Than Good Enough

June 24th, 2010

Earlier today I caught a link for a Drake documentary on Soul Culture. It follows Drake in the lead up to the release of Thank Me Later which has grown on me alot from it’s first spin. It also features a fairly in-depth interview. This is the second or third time I have heard Drake speak and he really interests me in with what he says he seems really honest. You can see the whole thing over at Soul Culture it was a really inspiring watch.

TL Cross

June 20th, 2010

Underrated and probably a handful of people would actually know of this guy in the U.K. You can hear some of his newer stuff over on his myspace I really like his sound….http://www.myspace.com/tlcross.

“With influences that range from The Beatles to rap legend Nas to folk music icon Bob Dylan, TL Cross’s music not only has a global appeal, his sound is so diverse it has a genre all its own–World Soul.”

This sounds so good in the sun!
