My Rant re:R&B

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I was sitting watching TV earlier and the standard advert for “R&B Lovesongs 2010” came on advertising a track listing that included the following two artists N-Dubz, Cheryl Cole. What I don’t get is how is this R&B?

There are other artists like Lady GaGa, Soulja Boy on the track list who I guess they can fit into this genre in some form. But before long Justin Bieber will be branded R&B just because Usher is involved in the project (OK there is no doubt he has potential but right now?)

Justin Bieber R&B?

Eliza Doolittle

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Didn’t really know much about Eliza Doolittle till the other day but did some Youtube and MySpace digging and I’m really impressed with what she has got to offer, stating her influences as Minnie Riperton, The Beach Boys amongst others.

Eliza Doolittle

Hoping that she gets to release an album I’m sure there is one penciled in but for some reason it feels like its a project that will go under the radar, when it should blow up. I suppose that doesn’t make any difference to me as long as I get hold of an album really love her sound!

Here’s the lead single Skinny Genes

More after the jump… EPK and all (if you don’t know what a EPK is you can find out)

Lemar The Way Love Goes

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Nice to see Lemar going a little up-beat to shift some copies of his soon to be released greatest hits (The Hits features JLS which actually sounds quite nice and a few new tracks). I do prefer Lemar on more Souly vibes but its nice to see him try something a little out of his normal zone and the remix features Mz Bratt (we like)…

Here is the video – this is nicely polished I love the MJ influence and use of the Silhouette and Rubix Cube cool stuff and the Lady in this video….

We look forward to album #6 you never know what Lemar is going to come with….

Darren B – Delays, Setbacks & Drama (Mixtape)

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

You will find this guy appearing as a feature artist on few U.K artists albums Sway, Wretch 32 also I am sure I have heard some of his Solo stuff before but can’t remember for the life of me the title of the track(I will find out think it was Shorty Got it Bad/Stand By Me, back in the day when DJB rocked 1xtra). He is also on the LG adverts that are around at the moment!

Anyway courtesy of twitter earlier I was informed that Darren B has dropped a mixtape today and I am four tracks in and it’s sounding hot…

You can download it here – Enjoy!

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Going for a little rant here…this group obviously have talent and I like alot of their album but its just their cover its everywhere at the moment and I don’t like it…stick with the Original or Joss Stone’s cover which has gone un-noticed off her last album….

New Artists – Jessie J/Mayer Hawthorne

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Couple of new artists I’ve been getting into of late thanks to some Twitter & Radio chatter

#1 Jessie J

Writer of Miley’s “Party in the U.S.A” – hated it to be honest this isn’t her fault just Mileys a bit shit. Quick check of her myspace proved that this girl is undoubtedly a talent to look for in 2010…

Check out her myspace for yourself

Jessie J

#2 Mayer Hawthorne

Closest thing I can compare this guy to is Rapheal Saadiq but I really like his vibe – modern soul if you like or just soul…

Check Mayer Hawthorne’s myspace here

Mayer Hawthorne

Skepta – Badboy

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

The in thing for the UK scene right now is sampling old dance hits and Skepta’s done it with Bad Boy – this is defiantly one for the club. Well its not really a sample more a snippet steal of Underworld – Born Slippy. Who cares it works?

Drag Racing x4

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Yer I love this motorsport by far the most vicious and powerful I will take this over F1, Touring Cars or anything any day of the week. For anyone who watches on TV and says its boring blah blah until you have been to experience the pure power, noise and smell of these machines 5000+ hp etc etc. I was really into this and quite involved with the sport in the U.K all my childhood shouts to Andy Carter and The Huxley’s spent many a weekend at the track even traveled to Europe this is a whole other post perhaps!

Normally they race in pairs but some nut in the states came up with the concept of racing four cars at the same time what an advance for the sport it must be something special to witness this check the video!
